TransPORTs is a strong strategic partner to Ranken Technical College, the State of Kentucky and Oceaneering International in their respective work to expand apprenticeship opportunities for American workers. With TransPORTs’ support, Ranken Technical College has been able to expand its cutting-edge youth and college student-oriented apprenticeship program for automotive technician specialists. Several hundred apprentices earn a degree from the college while earning a paycheck from on-the-job learning performed at participating automotive dealerships.
TransPORTs is actively collaborating with the State of Kentucky as part of the Commonwealth’s deep commitment to expanding apprenticeship. The two entities held a joint Apprenticeship Accelerator in July featuring the Kentucky Secretary of Labor Derrick Ramsey; attendees represented more than 30 employers, workforce intermediaries, secondary and post-secondary educational institutions. Within the last six months, TransPORTs has made investment commitments of nearly $200,000 to support new or expanded apprenticeship program development by 15 companies. TransPORTs financial investments and deep technical assistance are being used by participating companies to create new or expanded programs that will benefit more than 500 apprentices in over 20 different occupations.
TransPORTs has also provided financial support and technical assistance to Oceaneering’s Marine Services Division apprenticeship program which is a national model of apprenticeship for employers in the shipbuilding, repair, maintenance, and modernization sector.
